THE DI LORENZO STORY – A BIT ABOUT US

_A1A5630

Falegnameria Di Lorenzo is solid and alive, like wood: with a history more than 45 years long but with so much yet to be written. Here are the milestones of that history.

It was 1978 when the barely 20-year-old Michele Di Lorenzo took over from the original owners of the small workshop in via Carlo Papa in Modica, where as a boy he had worked as an apprentice. Once he had perfected the necessary knowledge, style and techniques, with an entrepreneurial spirit and with more than a little risk, Michele put himself out there and started his own business. Producing furniture, doors and windows the small Di Lorenzo carpentry studio started to make a name for itself.

After 10 years of careful, conscientious and exclusively handcrafted work, in 1988 Michele increased his number of clients and took on new collaborators: Falegnameria Di Lorenzo needed bigger premises and moved to the Modica Commercial Hub. It was in this warehouse that Raffaele and Fabrizio, Michele’s sons, while playing and doing small tasks, became more and more attracted by their father’s work, the smell of the wood, the charm of the tools and the perfect formsof the furniture created and started to take their first steps. So much so that, having finished high school, first one and then the other chose to join their father in leading what is today a family-run business, a symbol of quality and craftsmanship, with certifications in fixtures, varnishing, fitting and assembling.

Growth continued in terms of commissions, projects and investments. In 2016 a new important step happened when Falegnameria Di Lorenzo moved to its current 1200 sqm site, in the craft area of Modica. Today a dozen people work there using modern, cutting edge equipment: as well as traditional carpentry tools, highly technological machines are available that guarantee a high productive capacity, speed of execution and pinpoint precision, ensuring a handcrafted product, of superior quality but at a moderate price.

Today. Falegnameria Di Lorenzo continues to value wood, working with care and respect. The movements and the manuality of craftsmanship are timeless, guided by an attention and a flair that trace lines which bring life to an idea, a dream, a project drafted on paper. But attention is also open to new trends ( tastes, materials, design, client sensibility) and technological innovation, to continue to raise the value of our products, making them distinguishable in their uniqueness.

DI LORENZO’S PHILOSOPHY – WHAT INSPIRES US

_A1A8661

We have been a point of reference in woodworking, in the south of Sicily, for more than 45 years. But we haven’t finished learning, growing, making – and offering – experiences yet. Our experience is extensive: at first it was “only” manual and technical, then it became also technological and consultational, identifying the product that fits best in the space it is destined for and can satisfy the client’s request. This is what differentiates us from others: we work wood with precision, respect and dedication until we obtain a perfect product (be it a table, a wardrobe, a door, a fixture, a window), that is aesthetically functional, eye-catching and gains value day by day. We believe in fact that every product, above all in wood, created and perfected by hand, is a triumph to attention. That materializes in sartorial attention to detail, in the finishing of accessories and in the choice of the best materials. Those looking for personalized furnishings choose Falegnameria Di Lorenzo for the quality that we guarantee.

GREEN RESPONSIBILITY

We are also chosen for our eco sustainability. Working with a living material like wood for us means first of all taking care of it and taking care of the environment that produces it: that’s why over the years we have chosen the ethical production that today makes us decisively eco sustainable. In fact we only buy wood from certified forests (SFC), we recover and reuse waste materials, like for example wood chips that are compressed and become briquettes and pellets for heaters, wood burning ovens and fireplaces. These are also reused in company to heat hot presses for gluing and to speed up the drying of our products after painting or varnishing. For this important phase of the work, Di Lorenzo uses water-based paints and varnishes, to lessen the environmental impact of the workshop (and of your home); to make the work environment safer and healthier for our craftsmen; for the greater elasticity that these varnishes and paints give the wood and for the improved resistance to temperature changes they ensure. Lastly a solar power system has been installed on the roof of the workshop. The energy produced is used to support internal production, while solar panels heat the water.

THE DI LORENZO’S TEAM

Falegnameria Di Lorenzo is a family-run company. Michele, with a careful and expert eye, has a close relationship with the wood, overseeing projects and supporting collaborators during the different stages of the work. Raffaele takes great care over client liaison, listening to their requests, working with them to find measures and solutions with the support of the internal architect. He guides them in the technical development of the project, until the order is confirmed and entrusted to the laboratory. Fabrizio, manages the production phase together with the team of workshop artisans. This includes the varnishing / painting of each product, that is his specialisation, until pre-assembly for the confirmation of the product before it is delivered and assembled on site. The varnishing / painting department is the last stage of the artisanal production process for fixtures in wood and furniture for interior design, but it is the most important, because the varnish applied covers a fundamental role (aesthetically and in terms of stabilization, protection, finishing and duration) and must meet high quality standards.
